#BCM4360 LINUX KERNEL 4.4.0 66 UPDATE#
You know, I've done this on some of my 16.04 LTE systems, but didnt even consider trying it on the Mint system, as I didn't know if it would play nice with Mints Kernel update system. This is a patch series of ethernet driver for Sunplus SP7021 SoC. el_Support compare to the chart for 16.04 The non LTS kernels will not receive that length of support now, see the chart for 14.04. This is a departure from how kernels were handled in Ubuntu 14.04 as 14.04.2 was released with the 3.16 kernel that was used in 14.10 and the kernel was supported until late July 2016. Using linux-generic-hwe-16.04 at some point will upgrade to a kernel higher than 4.8 and it will be whatever kernel is used in the Ubuntu 17.04 release and then be updated to the kernel used in 17.10, see. Grub uses the highest kernel version number as default.
#BCM4360 LINUX KERNEL 4.4.0 66 INSTALL#
I would be annoyed if I now installed 4.40-66 and it became my default kernel instead of 4.8.xxxĬode: Select all sudo apt-get install linux-generic-hwe-16.04 I usually keep my last two kernels installed (typically of the same branch) just in case I need to fall back.ĭo you know how Mint determines which kernel to put as the default kernel in Grub? Is it the last installed kernel, or the highest version number?
#BCM4360 LINUX KERNEL 4.4.0 66 MANUAL#
I much prefer my manual command line methods. The Mint way of doing kernel updates thoroughly confuses me.

I have to admit I much prefer the way my Ubuntu servers handle kernels, so I can use "dist-upgrade" from the command line to get the latest of the series I have installed, and I can install newer release by specifying the package name on the command line. I just installed it via Update Manager menu. I, personally, always keep at least one original LTS kernel up to date, just in case I need a fall-back. You can remove kernels you do not want via Update Manager's menu > view > linux kernels. Is there a red exclamation icon beside it ? (security update) Richyrich wrote:That is probably the Long Term Support (LTS) kernel series that came default in Mint 18.1, and is most likely still installed on your system.
